Technical Issues

I am experiencing some major technical issues today. I have a wonderful Style Files post ready for you, but I cannot publish it for some reason. I have been trying since yesterday afternoon to no avail. I keep getting a "403 Server Error" message. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Please be patient and I will have a new post to share with you just as soon as I can. Thank you!

Style, Defined. Los Angeles

I’m heading to Los Angeles and Newport / Laguna Beach next Monday! I am super excited for my trip, which I am sure will feel like a whirlwind. While I will be busy with work the majority of the time, I do hope to be able to soak up some of that signature L.A. style. I know that everyone has their own interpretation of style, but more often than not, it seems that design lovers identify certain cities with specific looks. For example, the grand majority of design lovers in Houston opt for a very traditional, French-inspired look with linen, seagrass, and slipcovers. That doesn’t mean that everyone in Houston goes for this look in their home, but it has become rather ubiquitous. When I think of L.A., I picture glamorous interiors with a touch of Hollywood Regency; bold colors, playful shapes, and modern pieces mixed with vintage touches.

{This room, like most of the rooms designed by Woodson & Rummerfield embodies an old Hollywood spirit that is slightly over the top. Their designs often remind me of the sets of wonderful old movies like Auntie Mame.}

Seeing Spots

Most people seem to think of certain animal prints like zebra, giraffe, and especially leopard as classic design motifs. Although leopard is super hot this season, it seems like I am seeing more and more of these dalmatian-like spots lately. I think the pattern makes a great neutral for mixing with other colors and patterns. Could you see yourself getting on board with this spotted trend?

10 Things I Can’t Live Without: The Decorista

Ashlina’s blog, The Decorista has become one of my personal favorites for the fabulous, often L.A.-based design that it often features. Everything is beautiful and always has a touch of glamour. FLOR Rug Giveaway!

{My Favorite Pattern from FLOR’s Fall 2010 Line, Sophistikat}

The generous people at FLOR have teamed up with La Dolce Vita to give away a custom 5’ x 7’ area rug to one lucky reader! I have one of these innovative rugs in my breakfast room and I must say that I love it. The quality is really nice, putting it together is a breeze, and it is rather low maintenance.  FLOR tiles are a fabulous product for anyone with children or pets because if an accident or spill should occur, you can always replace a single tile and the rug is like new again. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the tiles are rather affordable!

Fabulous Room Friday 09.17.10

I love all of the details in this sunroom by Melanie Turner of Turner Davis Interiors in Atlanta. The room is part of the 40th Annual Atlanta Symphony Associates Decorators’ Show House & Gardens set in a stunning home in Buckhead’s Tuxedo Park. While some may argue that gilded sunburst mirrors are too trendy, I honestly think they’re a classic element, just like leopard print in fashion. It’s always going to be around, but it’s better in small doses. The massive scale of this mirror paired with the painted 1950s dresser and pagodas makes a bold statement that I happen to love. The pale pink drapes add an element of softness to the hard-edged surfaces in the room, like the slate flooring and exposed brick walls.

The room looks so beautiful bathed in so much natural light. Turner was inspired by fashion when she designed this room and it shows. The gold table is fantastic and unlike anything I’ve seen lately, which is rather refreshing. The base is evocative of gold bangles, isn’t it? The lines of the furniture are feminine and maintain a casual elegance. Not only is this room beautiful, it’s also rather inviting.

 

I am excited to see The Town with my husband tonight. It looks so good! I’m also looking forward to seeing my friend who just moved to Austin and her sweet new baby when they come to visit. Have a wonderful weekend!
