Fabulous Room Friday 07.16.10

This week’s Fabulous Room comes to us from interior designer, Benjamin Dhong. The tower attic was designed by Dhong for this year’s San Francisco Decorators Showcase house and was greatly inspired by Parisian style. Dhong wanted to maximize the views of the Golden Gate Bridge and aimed to make the room feel like a “sexy and escape”. I’d say he definitely accomplished his goal. The room has a very elegant aura and the shades of grey and blue are very reminiscent of Paris. The cool tones and luxurious textures within the room would be perfectly at home in a chic Parisian apartment or a grand hotel in the City of Lights.

ben dhong3 {How is this for ingenious? Dhong took an Arne Jacobson Egg Chair and had it reupholstered in a Manuel Canovas cut velvet fabric, which he paired with a Fortuny pillow. Dhong added the zebra rug because “the room was too ‘polite’ and needed a bit of edge”.}

Big Window Challenge: Eddie Ross & ELLE DECOR

eddie window10
Three designers are currently participating in a Apartment Therapy’s Big Window Challenge. The object was to design the most fabulous window for Bloomingdale’s flagship store in Manhattan. My hands-down favorite belongs to the amazing Eddie Ross. His room would be perfect for the modern day Holly Golightly. It was designed for “The Modern Woman” who is at once a media mogul and mother of two.

In describing his vision Eddie says “The signature space shimmers with a mix of classic and modern, new and old, together with a balance of bold patterns and vibrant colors. A spatter-paint print, like stars in an endless sky, reflects the owner's love of travel to wide-open spaces, and her passion for sparkling evenings at home entertaining friends and family.”

I adore the layered, collected look and feminine color palette along with the magazines and heels tossed on the floor. The room feels very realistic for the modern woman. As always, Eddie manages to include the most amazing vintage accessories to pull everything together. eddie window8

Eddie is a dear friend and definitely has my vote, but he needs our help because the competition is fierce and it has been a very close race so far. You can vote twice a day everyday until January 28th. Click here to visit the Big Window Challenge homepage to place your vote.

Fabulous Room Friday 01.15.10

nate berkus chicago
Today, I am loving this glamorous, gilded room by Nate Berkus which was featured in Chicago Home and Garden Magazine. There are so many fabulous details and despite the fact that the furniture is very formal, the room feels unassuming and inviting.

Fabulous Room Friday 01.08.10

eric piasecki
This cozy room was photographed by Eric Piasecki and was featured on the cover of the final issue of the now defunct Southern Accents. It is just the kind of room in which I’d like to spend a freezing day like today. The serene palette, beautiful furnishings, and lovely view make the space so welcoming. It would be the perfect spot to read a book or curl up with my laptop to watch a marathon of Showtime’s The Tudors on Netflix! I watched my first episode on Sunday and now I’m hooked!
I hope everyone has a lovely, warm weekend! If you didn’t have a chance to read yesterday’s post, please do when you have a little time. It is filled with some gorgeous images that I can’t stop thinking about!

Fabulous Room Friday 12.11.09

This week’s fabulous room took my breath away the first time I saw it. This gorgeous kitchen / dining room combination was designed by Heather Garrett, who also happens to live in the gorgeous loft space. The soft, glowing light coupled with the white and grey palette makes it feel serene and warm. I love the eclectic mix of accessories she chose for the space from the industrial stools, to the capiz chandeliers, right down to the antlers above the stove. I think it’s the perfect winter space, but I’d take it any time of the year!

Technically, the living room isn’t part of the kitchen/dining area, but it is too gorgeous to be left out. Seriously, looking at the pictures of this home makes me giddy!
